New Special Enrollment Periods

We wanted to inform you of three new Special Enrollment Periods (SEPs) that went into effect on September 1.

  1. SEP for Loss of Coverage due to quitting a job. This applies to prospective and existing members on Small Group plans in Illinois, Iowa and Washington; existing or prospective Individual members on and off the Marketplace in Illinois; and existing or prospective Individual members of our direct market plans in Washington.
  2. FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) SEP. This is available for prospective members who had a qualified event in 2020 (January 2020 through present) but did not sign up for an Individual plan. It applies to Individual plans on and off the Marketplace in Illinois and to our direct market plans in Washington.
    • Note: Health Alliance and Health Alliance Northwest will not allow retro effective dates for members who purchase a Health Alliance or Health Alliance Northwest direct market plan.
    • Note: Members who want to sign up for a plan on the Marketplace should consult the Marketplace directly for eligibility and enrollment rules.
  3. SEP for Loss of Coverage for existing members enrolled in a direct market plan who had a change in income, qualifying them for a Marketplace SEP. This SEP only applies to Individual plans on the Marketplace in Illinois.
